Eating Alone

Good day,

I will soon move house and have begun the arduous process of surveying all of my possessions. While this is overall quite tedious. I did stumble across some things I've not looked at in a very long time and enjoyed it. Ever the hoarder, I have kept paper copies of every magazine my work has ever been in (which sounds like a brag until I tell you that this amounts to like, 5 items). I found my first comic that was ever published somewhere other than my Instagram. In 2021 I was commissioned by Aww magazine for a comic to be included in an issue all about food. As far as I remember the only brief was "it should be about people eating alone", and I wrote a four-page comic for this. Since I don't think I've shared this one on this newsletter before, here it is in full.

I made this almost exactly five years ago - interesting to note how my work has changed since then, and how it has not. I'd like to think both my drawing and writing have improved, but I still stand by the jokes in this one (the catfish panel actually made me laugh when I read it again), and even in this pretty early work you can detect my ambition to balance lightheartedness with, for lack of a better term, regular-heartedness.

Wishing you lots of bread and friends to share it with,
